MK Act is calling for toiletries collection points to support domestic abuse survivors

MK Act, Milton Keynes’ dedicated domestic abuse support service, is marking its 50th anniversary by launching a community-wide appeal for essential toiletries to support women and children in their refuge. To make donating easier, MK Act is looking for local businesses, community groups, and organisations to host public collection points across Milton Keynes.

Given the confidential nature of MK Act’s secure refuge location, these collection points will allow the general public to drop off much-needed toiletries, which MK Act volunteers will collect regularly. Items needed include:

  • Shampoo and conditioner
  • Toothpaste, toothbrushes, and dental floss
  • Shower gel, handwash, deodorant, and hand cream
  • Sanitary towels and tampons
  • Nappies and baby wipes

Sue Burke, CEO of MK Act, said: “Reaching our 50th year is a milestone, and we want to mark it by rallying the community to support those escaping domestic abuse. Having access to basic toiletries can make a huge difference to someone arriving at our refuge with nothing. We’re calling on local organisations to help us provide this vital support by hosting a collection point.”

MK Act is very grateful to have John Lewis and Morrisons at Elder Gate supporting this initiative by serving as drop-off points. However, to ensure accessibility across the city, we are looking for additional locations—from Newport Pagnell to Bletchley, Stony Stratford to Broughton—so that more people can donate to make sure that refuge residents have access to all they need when they arrive at the safe location.

If your organisation can host a standalone collection point, please get in touch with MK Act. Together, we can ensure survivors of domestic abuse have access to the essentials they need to rebuild their lives.
