Road to Refuge

In partnership with Women’s Aid Federation of England

What is Road to Refuge?

Road to Refuge is a joint initiative between National Express and Women’s Aid in which National Express cover the cost of coach tickets for women, men and children escaping domestic abuse and other forms of violence against women and girls travelling to refuge accommodation. Road to Refuge is available to organisations that are members of Women’s Aid Federation of England, Imkaan, Scottish Women’s Aid or Welsh Women’s Aid.

How does Road to Refuge work?

  1. A survivor reaches out for support from a domestic abuse service which is a member of Women’s Aid Federation of England, Imkaan, Scottish Women’s Aid or Welsh Women’s Aid.
  2. If appropriate, the survivor will be referred to a refuge and will be informed once a refuge vacancy is confirmed.
  3. The member organisation can send the ticket and collection details to the survivor via e-ticket, m-ticket, by post, or pick the ticket up from the coach station using any debit or credit card. They can travel as usual, without having to declare the ticket was free or that they are fleeing from domestic abuse.
  4. The refuge can send the ticket and collection details to the survivor via e-ticket, m-ticket, by post, or pick the ticket up from the coach station using any debit or credit card. They can travel like normal, without having to declare the ticket was free or that they are fleeing from domestic abuse.
